The Big Apple

Ryan is a huge Boston Red Sox fan. My brother lives in New York, and we've always wanted to go. So about 4 weeks ago I approached Ryan with a "proposition". I found that the Red Sox were playing the Yankees on May 17, and we also have enough Skymiles to fly for free! With a place to stay, a free plane ticket, and a good baseball game we couldn't pass it up.

We flew in Friday and spent the night relaxing and ordered a little Chinese Food. You know that's something you've always wanted to do - call and order authentic Chinese Food, have the doorman call up to say your food's here, have a little Chinese man deliver your 4 little white boxes of food and enjoy :) This was the best trip ever. We got so absolutely lucky with the weather, blue skies, a nice 75 degrees, and a slight breeze to keep cool. It was the first good weather weekend in NYC this year so there were lots of people out and about. But we basically did everything we wanted to do. We left thinking of nothing that we wish we would've had time to do. With that said, we never stopped, it was go-go-go.

Saturday, Ryan & Kenna took us on a nice jog so we could see the quick tour of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero and the pier. We went to Chinatown and Soho and did some good shopping. We grabbed some delicious rice pudding at "Rice to Riches", and continued to explore the city. That night we went to this small little Mexican Restaurant, that was super spicy, and so tasty. We were so lucky to be in New York with New Yorkers because they know all the good places to eat, we never got lost, so we never really wasted any time!

Sunday we went to Ryan & Shanna's ward, went home for a quick rest and then went to Central Park for a fabulous little picnic. Shanna made the best B.L.A.T's (the best BLT with yummy avacado and honey mustard), and we spent a few hours playing and relaxing in the nice warm sun. The park was packed with everyone enjoying the perfect weather. We also passed the New York Temple which is in such a great location and really is quite amazing.

Monday we wanted to take advantage of the continual nice weather and our last day in New York. So we woke up early, ran down to the Today's Show and got to see their cooking segment. It was fun to see a live airing of a show, we didn't stick around long enough to try and get on camera, I guess we weren't as die hard as the ladies with the Statue of Liberty hats, hm, oh well. We then went up to the top of the Rockefeller Center to see the amazing view of the entire city. Ryan & Shanna said this was the way to go opposed to the Empire State Building because from the Top of the Rock you could actually see the Empire State Building, as well as the entire view of Central Park. We went early enough that there was no line, and we beat the crowds to the top, it was so breathtaking. That was definitley a highlight of the trip.

We met up with Shanna & Kenna at the Shake Shack, the most amazing cheeseburger, fries and milk shake I think I have ever had. Good-bye In-n-Out, my heart is now with the Shake Shack. We then headed up to Times Square, walked around, and soaked in the madness. Next we went down the street to the Madison Square Garden, the most famous arena, and took an "All Access Tour". It was realy neat! We went into the Theater where the NBA Draft and several other big events take place. We had a tour of the actual arena, the locker rooms (which were very unimpressive...kind of ghetto), and learned a lot about the history of the arena and all of the huge memorable moments that occured there.

It was awesome. We then met up with my brother Ryan, walked around the Financial District - Wall Street, Trinity Church, The Washington Memorial and all that. Then we got all geared up to go the Yankees vs. Red Sox Game, we took a free ferry up the river to the stadium and it was so amazing to see the whole skyline of Manhattan from the river. We got some good ole' Ballpark Food for dinner and watched the best game ever. There were about 7 homeruns, which made it exciting for both Ryans and their teams. But in the last inning the Yankees pulled out and got the big "W". It was so fun to be in the brand new, nice Yankee Stadium. We had a blast. Whew...what a day!

Needless to say, after all of that, we were worn out. Tuesday was a bit less eventful, mostly because we had a plane to catch and it was pouring rain! We trudged in the rain to the Brooklyn Bridge, walked a little ways up until we felt it was good enough, then we went and met up with Ryan at work for a quick lunch and Shanna & Kenna put us on the right train back to the airport. After being in line for security for an hour, we barely made our flight. But with the rain, there was only one run way open, for both planes landing and taking off. After another almost 2 hours on the runway we finally took off. Long flight. It was great to be home :)

This was the best thing we could have ever done. We got to take a quick break from work, we saw the big city, spent time with family, had sooo much fun, and celebrated probably our last trip with just mommy & daddy. Traveling will be a lot different the rest of our lives! This was our last big hurrah, and it was the best trip ever.

Yay for frequent flier miles! That's how we fly most places too. Well...places further away.

Fun trip! Traveling will be different for sure. We just went to St. George and it was fun but it's sure different when you have to schedule around sleeping schedules! You look great by the way!
